Notes from Michigan State's heart-breaking 42-39 loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Football Championship Game.

• The last six games in the Michigan State-Wisconsin series have been decided by a combined total of 31 points (all six games decided by 10 points or less).

• Michigan State gained 471 yards of total offense, the most allowed by Wisconsin all season long ... MSU has recorded more than 400 yards of total offense in four of its last five games (402 vs. Minnesota, 443 vs. Iowa, 470 vs. Indiana).

• Michigan State held Wisconsin to 126 rushing yards, the second-lowest output of the season on the ground for the Badgers ... after Wisconsin rushed for 105 yards in the first quarter, MSU held the Badgers to 21 yards rushing over the final three quarters.

Kirk Cousins completed 22-of-30 passes for 281 yards and tied his career high with three touchdowns ... Cousins set MSU's single-season passing touchdown record in the process and now has 24 passing TDs this season ... Cousins passed Drew Stanton, who threw 22 TDs in 2005 ... Cousins, already MSU's all-time leader in TD passes, now has 65 for his career ... Cousins also became just the third Spartan quarterback to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season, joining Jeff Smoker (3,395 in 2003) and Drew Stanton (3,077 in 2005); Cousins has 3,016 passing yards this season ... Cousins, who entered the game with 21 TDs this season, tied the record with a 30-yard TD pass to B.J. Cunningham on fourth-and-inches on the first play of the second quarter, cutting the Badger lead to 21-14 ... Cousins connected on a 35-yard TD pass to Cunningham on a fourth-and-2 play in the second quarter during the first meeting between the two teams ... Cousins set the MSU single-season TD record in the second quarter with his 23rd TD of the season; he threw a 3-yard completion to Keith Nichol, who then lateraled the ball to Cunningham, and Cunningham proceeded to run it in from 7 yards out ... Cousins was 15-for-17 for 181 yards and two TDs in the first half ... his third TD pass was a 44-yarder to Cunningham in the third quarter ... it marked Cousins' 25th career 200-yard passing game, extending his school record ... in four career starts against Wisconsin (2-2), Cousins was 81-of-124 passing (.653) for 1,041 yards (260.3 ypg.) and 11 touchdowns ... over his last five games, Cousins is 93-of-138 passing (.674) for 1,323 yards (264.6 ypg.), 13 TDs and two interceptions.

• B.J. Cunningham became MSU's all-time leader in receiving yards with his 44-yard TD reception in the third quarter ... Cunningham passed Andre Rison, who previously held the record with 2,992 receiving yards ... Cunningham is now the school's all-time leader in both receiving yards (3,020) and receptions (211) ... Cunningham recorded a career-high three TDs (30 yards in first quarter; 7 yards in second quarter; 44 yards in third quarter) ... Cunningham now has 25 career TD receptions, which is second most in MSU history (record: Charles Rogers with 27, 2001-02) ... he also has 12 TDs this season, which is tied for third in MSU single-season history, and 72 receptions, which is second most in an MSU season ... Cunningham scored his first TD on a 30-yard pass from Cousins on fourth-and-inches on the first play of the second quarter, cutting the Badger lead to 21-14 ... for his second TD, he caught a lateral from Keith Nichol at the 7-yard line and ran it in for a touchdown ... his third touchdown, a 44-yarder, arrived on a third-and-6 play with 1:41 left in the third quarter ... in five career games against Wisconsin, Cunningham had 22 catches for 309 yards and six touchdowns.

Keshawn Martin recorded a career-high nine receptions for 115 yards ... it marked his second career 100-yard receiving game (139 yards vs. Wisconsin in 2009) ... Martin led MSU with 153 all-purpose yards (115 receiving, 26 rush, 12 punt return); over his last eight games, Martin is averaging 112.4 all-purpose yards per game.

• In the two meetings this season, Michigan State has outscored Wisconsin, 45-0, in the second quarter ... the Spartans outscored the Badgers 22-0 tonight, and 23-0 in the first meeting ... the Badgers had -4 yards of total offense in the second quarter.

• Le'Veon Bell recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and second of the season with 106 yards on 18 carries ... he had a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter, his team-leading 11th of the season.

• Keith Nichol tied his career high with four receptions for 39 yards.

Denicos Allen recorded a career-high three sacks (15 yards) ... he's the first Spartan to record three sacks in a game since Trevor Anderson against Michigan in 2008 ... Allen also recorded a career-high 4.0 tackles for loss (16 yards), which ties for seventh most by a Spartan in a single game ... it's the most tackles for loss by a Spartan since Kevin Vickerson had 4.0 tackles for loss vs. Notre Dame in 2004 ... Allen's 17.0 tackles for loss this season are tied for fifth most in an MSU season, along with Mike Labinjo ... Allen's 10.0 sacks this season ties for sixth most in an MSU season.

Trenton Robinson led MSU with 12 tackles; it marked the fourth time in his career he has recorded double-digit tackles ... in four games against Wisconsin, Robinson compiled 39 tackles (9.8 avg.).
