Official Visit Primer

As Outback Bowl preparations get into high gear, Mark Dantonio and his staff are still in the process of building their recruiting class for 2012. Who will be on campus this weekend for their official visit? And what are the key points for this weekend's visitors? SpartanDigest.com break's it down in a reader-friendly format.

Michigan State welcomes one official visitor this weekend as the Spartans coaching staff starts grinding on upcoming opponent Georgia. Having only one prime recruiting target on campus should give the Spartans the chance to give extra special attention.

This weekend the Spartans host only one official visitor.

Demetrious Cox

Position: Safety

School: Jeannette Senior High School – Jeannette, PA

Height: 6-1
Weight: 185

Scout.com Position Rank: Four-Star, #10 safety

Schools under consideration: Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and others.

What this visit means: Having made several unofficial visits this fall now places Cox on campuses for official visits looking to find the best fit for his talents. With several of the programs who have offered and he's shown interest in having coaching issues (Pitt – Penn State) and a new offer from Notre Dame, Cox is a player in great demand and a testament to the Spartans recruiting efforts to get him on an official visit.

A top safety prospect, Cox is a player the Spartans would love to have in the class as they look to add the final pieces. Cox and Jordan Diggs are the top two safeties the Spartans are after and after that they'll have to start looking at second options.
