Appling Leads Spartans to Win

Spartans find their way after hot shooting Lehigh cools down posting a 90-81 victory.

Despite being down at the half, No. 19 Michigan State came back posting a 90-81 victory over the Mountain Hawks.

Keith Appling led the Spartans with 19 points, including going perfect (12-12) from the free throw line in the struggle against the hot shooting Mountain Hawks.

Despite finding himself on the bench for missing the start of a team meeting, Draymond Green added 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double this season.

Branden Dawson also continued to show his versatility posting 14 points and eight rebounds while Austin Thornton added 11 points and seven boards for the 11-2 Spartans.

The Spartans were outscored 15-0 beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of the game as Holden Greiner was the hot hand. The Michigan native would finish with 24 points and see C.J. McCollum (19 points) with Mackey McKnight and Gabe Knutson each adding 14 each.

Despite being down at the half, Tom Izzo's team busted out tying the game before taking a 45-41 lead and not looking back.

The Spartans get five days off before opening up Big Ten play against Indiana on Dec. 28.
