Dantonio Corrects Media Reports

With an internet full of news about Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer's recruiting practices, some information hitting the net has made it look as if Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio was one of the instigators. On Friday night, Dantonio released the following statement on the subject.

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio felt the need on Friday night to address comments some have reported aimed at new Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.

Following National Signing Day, Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema expressed concerns with the direction the Big Ten Conference was headed in regards to recruiting high school prospects who have issued verbal pledges to other Big Ten programs.

Some have added Dantonio's name to the discussion of those who have questioned the recruiting practices of Meyer and his staff.

After hearing about some of the reports, Dantonio released the following statement.

"There's a need to correct some inaccurate news accounts that have appeared over the last two days. Let me be clear: some general recruiting statements I made were completely taken out of context when combined together by a reporter not in attendance. The timing of my comments was a reflection of an occurring matter on Signing Day and had nothing to do with Urban Meyer and Ohio State. My comments regarding ‘unethical' behavior were general in nature, according to my current coaching philosophy, and not directed toward any particular institution."
