SD Quick Take: Tres Barksdale

Tres Barksdale has official been named to Michigan State's football roster for the 2012 season. Here is a quick look at the Ohio native.

Despite posting 90 career receptions and 14 touchdowns during his prep career at Solon (Ohio) High School, Tres Barksdale did not see college programs knocking down his door. After making the decision to attend Georgetown College, Barksdale was not satisfied and remembered a conversation he had with Michigan State coach Pat Narduzzi. That conversation led to Barksdale making a change in plans and agreeing to become a member of the Spartans this fall. Here is a quick look at the newest member of the Spartans football program.

What To Like

Having watched Barksdale over the past two years the first thing that stood out was his ability to catch the football. Standing 6-foot-2, 183-pounds, Barksdale has a good frame and while not the fastest player on the field, is smooth in his cuts and not afraid to go over the middle.

What May Concern You

How many receivers will the Spartans have on their roster in 2012? After signing a strong class and adding a transfer, Barksdale will find a crowded position to fight through from walk-on status.

Bottom Line

A great overall athlete, Barksdale is no stranger to the Spartans staff as he's camped at MSU in the summer and was being followed by the staff during the past year. Michigan State reached out to Barksdale and by doing so gave the talented wide receiver a belief he'll be given a chance to earn a scholarship at some point of his career.
