Powell Goes Green

It didn't take long for Warren (OH) safety Jalyn Powell to cast his future with Michigan State. SpartanDigest.com spoke with Powell following his pledge.

It was a whirlwind day for Warren (Ohio) Harding safety Jalyn Powell.

First, he was excited to visit Michigan State for their Junior Day after hearing great things about the Spartans program from two family members with ties to the program.

Second, he received a scholarship offer from the Spartans.

"Michigan State offered me today," an excited Powell said. "I really liked everything I saw today and felt like it was the best place for me right away."

Powell had some help prior to his Spartans visit.

"Chris L. Rucker is my cousin," explained Powell. "He said he really enjoyed it at Michigan State and that I should consider going there if I was offered.

Powell, who also held an offer from West Virginia, is projected to play safety in college with his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame.

While Mark Dantonio was not able to attend today's Junior Day activities, he did make time to address visitors as a group and speak one-on-one with Powell to accept his pledge.

"I spoke with Coach Dantonio," said Powell. "He was very happy when I committed."
