Hoyer There For The Taking

Not many prospects from the state of Ohio leave the Buckeye State to play their college football but the Buckeyes are going national in their search for a quarterback in 2003 leaving an opening for other schools in the Big Ten region with a shot at some very good signal callers.

Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius quarterback Brian Hoyer is one of the top gunslingers in the Midwest. He had a very good workout at the (Ann Arbor) Nike Camp and several schools have offered a scholarship.

"Michigan State, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Maryland and Bowling Green have all offered me a scholarship." Hoyer said.

"I visited Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia recently. I had a chance to throw at South Carolina for a little bit before some rain storms came through the area.

" I think the South Carolina coaches liked what they saw and they might offer a scholarship soon.

"My favorites are Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, South Carolina, Maryland, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh.

"I like Ohio State but they seem to be waiting on Chad Henne and Anthony Morelli. Michigan State offered me first and I really like coach (John L.) Smith.

"I'm keeping all my options open right now."

Brian Hoyer threw for 2,130 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior.
