Spartans Hold Top Seed In Big Ten Tournament

Despite their loss on Sunday to Ohio State, Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans claim the top seed in this year's Big Ten Basketball Tournament which begins on Thursday morning in Indianapolis (IN).

The Big Ten announced on Sunday night the bracket for the 2012 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament, which will begin play on Thursday morning and run through Sunday afternoon when a champion will be crowned.

Michigan State enters the tournament with the No. 1 seed for the fourth time in tournament history and first since 2009, finishing with a conference record of 13-5.

The Spartans top seed gives them a bye in the first round where they'll await the winner of the tournament's first game between Iowa (No. 8 seed) and Illinois (No. 9 seed).

During the regular season MSU defeated Iowa 95-61 in East Lansing in early January and loss to Illinois 42-41 later in the same month on the road in Champaign.

Friday's game is set to tip-off at Noon (ET) and will be televised by ESPN.

A victory in the second round would place the Spartans in a Saturday (1:40 p.m. ET) contest against the winner of No. 4 seed Wisconsin who will play the winner of a first round game between Indiana (No. 5 seed) and Penn State (No. 12 seed).

Attached is the complete tournament bracket for this year's tournament.
