Quick Look: Louisville

Tom Izzo's team will battle Rick Pitino's Big East Tournament Champion Louisville on Thursday night in their quest to reach the Final Four. We take a quick look at the Cardinals prior to the tip.

Michigan State is getting ready to battle one of the hottest teams over the past two weeks in Louisville in the next round of tournament play.

The Cardinals have won six straight games including victories over Sweet 16 contestants Cincinnati and Marquette during the Big East Tournament.

Head Coach: Rick Pitino (11 seasons at Louisville)

Pitino much like his Michigan State counterpart is a household name in the basketball world as he's been a head coach for 25 seasons. The only coach in NCAA history to take three different teams to the NCAA Final Four, Pitino's signature is his team's up-tempo style of play using a pressure defense.

2011-12 Record: 28-9 (10-8 Big East)

Key Players

Leading Scorer: Kyle Kuric – The senior from Evansville (IN) followed up a solid junior season with a team leading senior year averaging 13 points a game. Kuric leads the Cardinals in minutes played with a team high average of 36.3 minutes per contest.

Leading Rebounder: Gorgui Dieng – The sophomore is a native of Senegal who had a solid freshman year and has followed up with a team leading 336 rebounds. While Dieng knows how to clean the glass, he is also a problem down low as he's blocked a team high 116 shots this past season.

Assist Leader: Peyton Siva - The junior from Seattle (WA) is a classic point guard who knows his job is to get the ball to the scorers. On the season Siva has handed out 191 assists while also posting a scoring average of 9.2 points a game. Siva has also shown he can be pressured into turning over the ball having committed 122 turnovers on the year. However, Siva is playing his best at this time having earned Big East Tournament MVP just a couple of weeks ago.
