Drake Likes Spartans

With two more seasons of high school football ahead of him, Deon Drake knows any thoughts of serious recruiting are premature. However, one team showing a lot of interest early is Michigan State. SpartanDigest.com spoke with Drake about the Spartans.

A recent visit to Michigan State showed Detroit (MI) Cass Tech linebacker Deon Drake a lot about the Spartans.

"My teammates and I went up for Michigan State's Junior Day," said Drake. "Michigan State has a great atmosphere and it was a nice tour. I met with Coach (Terrence) Samuel while I was there."

What has Coach Samuel's told Drake about the Spartans interest?

"He says I have nice size for a linebacker and that he really likes me," said Drake.

One thing not lost on the young linebacker was how players got along.

"I like how they all work together and are all friends," he said. "Plus I'm high on their coaching staff in how they work with their players."

As for any plans this summer, Drake is still unsure as to where he'll camp. However, he knows one person who will want him to spend a day in East Lansing.

"I have not thought about it yet," said Drake. "But my father would love for me to camp there."

Drake tested as one of the Top 50 prospects at last Saturday's Nike Football SPARQ Combine positing an overall SPARQ score of 89.97.
