Quick Look: Notre Dame

Spartan fans will again pack Spartan Stadium as Notre Dame comes to town for a week three match-up that will test the Spartans.

Game No. 3 – Notre Dame
Date: 9/15/2012 – East Lansing (MI) – Spartan Stadium
Conference: Independent
2011 Record: 8-5
Last Bowl Game: Champs Sports Bowl – (2011) – Loss 18-14 to Florida State

Head Coach: Brian Kelly

16-10 (2 seasons) | Overall: 187-66-2

Kelly and the Irish will never forget their last trip to Spartan Stadium and the now famous Little Giants play giving the Spartans an overtime victory.

The third installment of former University of Cincinnati head coaches should be another battle as the Spartans and Irish will both bring solid defenses to the table.

The questions for both teams will be on the offensive side of the ball as Notre Dame is still looking for a top-notch quarterback and the Spartans will only be in the third game of the Andrew Maxwell era.

Biggest Question for 2012: Can Kelly find a quarterback to run his offense and reduce the number of turnovers?

The Irish have a veteran quarterback in Tommy Rees who has shown the ability to win games but seems to be turnover prone at the worst possible time. Despite his winning record Rees is fighting for the starting job during the spring.

The Irish have made some changes on their coaching staff as they'll enter the 2012 season with new coaches at several offensive positions including offensive coordinator.

Irish fans are getting restless and the Irish early schedule has them playing Navy in Dublin, Ireland before returning home to play Purdue before they trek to East Lansing.

Early Prediction: The Spartans will look to avoid last season's 31-13 loss to the Irish. While there are questions for both teams at this time fans should expect a defensive struggle as both teams look to field top defensive units. Right now you have to give the early edge to the Spartans as there are just more questions for the Irish to answer.
