McDowell Planning Spartan Visit

One of the more impressive performers during the Adidas Invitational was Detroit (MI) Loyola defensive lineman Malik McDowell. Spartan Digest has the latest on McDowell and his thoughts about the recruiting process.

Make no mistake an in-state recruiting battle is already brewing between Michigan State and Michigan when it comes to Detroit (MI) Loyola defensive end Malik McDowell.

McDowell, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound specimen expects there to be a battle and Saturday was another chance for McDowell to compete against older guys.

"I'm use to playing against older guys," said McDowell. "When I played PAL I was always too big to play with my age group because there is a weight limit. So I would practice against the older players. So I'm use to playing against the older the guys."

While it's early in the process, McDowell is very open about where he ends in a couple of years.

"I have interest in any school right now," said McDowell. "Any school that is willing to offer me is a school I have interest in. During the summer of my junior year I plan on going on several visits."

With the summer fast approaching McDowell has already made plans to visit a couple of programs for spring games as well as some early camp choices.

"I'm planning on visiting Michigan State for their spring game," explained McDowell. "I'll also be visiting Michigan for their spring game and plan on camping at Michigan and Ohio State this summer."

While McDowell claims to follow both the Spartans and Wolverines, when pressed about a favorite he pushes the talk away from the game.

"My college decision will be based on things outside of football," he said. "I'll be looking at the academics of both schools to make my decision."
