Speedy DB selects Spartans

The Spartans got their second in-state verbal commitment for the 2004 class on Thursday when a defensive back from Allen Park selected the Spartans.

Brian Brighton, a 5-foot-11, 185 pounder will give the Spartans speed in the defensive backfield. Brighton was the Division 2 state champion in the 100 meter this year. Brighton joins another Detroit product -- Deon Curry, the son of Detroit Pistons forward Michael Curry, who verballed earlier this spring. Curry will be a senior wide receiver at Detroit Country Day. Brighton was recruited heavily by MSU's cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes. Also, Griff Howard, a quarterback from Port Charlotte High in Florida has verballed to come to join the Spartans this fall. The 6-2, 185-pound option quarterback was originally going to Navy, but backed out and will most likely help the Spartans' inexperienced defensive backs next year.
