Spartans Earn Two-Way Pledge From Harris

Wednesday found Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio getting an early start to the 2014 recruiting class with the verbal pledge of Drake Harris. Why did Harris pledge to the Green & White?

Grand Rapids (MI) Christian High School two-sport standout Drake Harris gave Michigan State his verbal pledge today at his school.

Harris, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound wide receiver and shooting guard, is the first member of the Spartans 2014 class and will look to use both of his talents when he arrives on campus.

Why was Michigan State the right fit for Harris?

"It's only 45 minutes away and both coaches, Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio are going to be there for awhile," said Harris. "Their system fits me really good in football and basketball."

One reason Harris was able to select the Spartans was past success both coaches have seen in players playing both sports.

"They've talked to me and they've had players play both before," said Harris. "A lot of schools haven't had players play both, Michigan State has had that in their time. It will be a little bit tough but I think I can make the transition."
