Early Look Depth Chart: Wide Receiver

Michigan State released their preseason depth chart on Thursday and we start looking at each position and the battles headed into the 2012 season. We start at wide receiver where spots are open for a number of players.

If there is a position on Michigan State's offense we expect to see some early battles in camp it is the wide receiver spot. Who steps up and takes control early in camp will have a great chance of making an impact and holding onto the job for the majority of the season.

Despite its youth, the wide receiver position looks solid and already has a working relationship with new quarterback Andrew Maxwell over the past couple of years.

Another name not listed on the depth chart but expected to get reps is Jeremy Langford who is listed as a running back on the depth chart. The Spartans coaching staff feels Langford is too good of an athlete to waste as the fourth string running back so do not be surprised if he gets reps.

X – Receiver

Bennie Fowler or Tony Lippett

If there are two receivers many expect to have big years its Fowler and Lippett who have shown signs of having the talent to become go-to guys for Maxwell.

If Fowler can put behind his injury issues and Lippett progress as expected going only on offense, look out as the Spartans will have two dynamic weapons from the X receiver spot.

Juwan Caesar

Kyle Kerrick

Z – Receiver

Keith Mumphery

After earning Scout Team offensive player of the year honors two years ago Mumphery earned his first letter on special teams in 2011. Now is his time to show he's got the talent to claim the job or risk being passed up by the young depth on the Spartans roster. The Spartan coaching staff expects Mumphery to become a major talent.

Andre Sims Jr. or DeAnthony Arnett

Sims redshirted last fall but showed in the spring why the Spartans went after him hard in the recruiting process. Arnett didn't come to MSU to watch others make plays and will push Sims and Mumphery for reps early. With game experience already behind him, don't be surprised if Arnett pushes hard in camp to earn the starting spot.

John Jakubik

Aaron Burbridge

Macgarrett Kings Jr.

Monty Madaris

The Spartans must expect Burbridge to have all his academic work in order as they have issued him a jersey number. At least one if not all of these three incoming freshmen have a shot to earn time on the field and not take a redshirt season.
