Spartans To Have Surprise Visitor

Friday will find Michigan State getting ready for the official start of the 2012 season on Saturday. However, a surprise visitor on Friday might help the Spartans in the future. We have the latest.

Michigan State has seen several prospects crossover from Canada over the years and another one is ready to see what the Spartans have to offer as offensive tackle David Knevel will visit campus Friday.

"I'm going to Michigan State on Friday," said Knevel. "I've been talking with (assistant) coach (Pat) Narduzzi and (assistant) coach (Mark) Staten.

What may intrigue the Spartans most is Knevel's position and physical size.

"I'm 6-foot-8, and weigh 295-pounds right now," said Knevel.

While under the radar, Knevel has picked up two early offers.

"I've got offers from Wisconsin and Missouri right now," said Knevel. "I visited Wisconsin during their spring game and then went back to their camp where they offered after camp was over.

"I liked the Wisconsin coaching staff and (assistant) coach (Mike) Markuson is a really great coach. I also like their campus.

"Missouri offered me at their spring game and I went to their camp to check things out. I had a really nice tour with (assistant) coach (Brian) Jones and it was nice. I liked the camp I went to as it was really nice."

A native of Brantford, Ontario, Knevel may have been assisted with his recruiting from a viral video came out.

"There was a video that went viral and then colleges including Michigan State contacted my scout," said Knevel. "He gave them my information and helped up make contact."

Joining Knevel on his visit will be his mother and an offer from the Spartans would be special.

"It would be great to earn an offer from Michigan State," said Knevel. "I don't really know too much about them, but I'm intrigued about them since they are close to home and they have a great legacy."

The Spartans are not the only ones making contact with Knevel.

"I plan on visiting with Vanderbilt and I've been talking with Wake Forest, Kentucky and Alabama a little bit," said Knevel.

One thing that could help Knevel with any college is the fact he's already cleared the NCAA Clearinghouse and hopes to enroll early.

"I would like to enroll in January," said Knevel. "There is no need for me to stay another semester as I'll be all finished by then. So I would really like to enroll early."

Could the Spartans add a new member to the class if they offer?

"I would like to end this as soon as possible," explained Knevel. "When the feeling is right I will know. I don't know what to expect but I've liked the contact I've had with Michigan State and I'm planning on going in with an open mind and try and learn as much as I can."

Spartan Digest will check back with Knevel for an update on his visit with the Spartans.
