Early Look Depth Chart: Defensive Backs

With one of the best cornerbacks in the country in Johnny Adams, a lot is expected out of Michigan State's secondary. We look at the players who make up the preseason depth chart in the secondary as the Spartans get ready to report to camp later this week.

With Trenton Robinson off to the NFL, Johnny Adams is now the face of Michigan State's defensive secondary.

Adams, along with Isaiah Lewis and Darqueze Dennard, will look for others to take their game up a notch to keep opposing teams at bay.

CORNERBACKS Johnny Adams, Darqueze Dennard, Mitchell White, Trae Waynes, Mylan Hicks, Arjen Colquhoun

It all starts with how well Adams and Dennard perform as they both have the abilities to be two of the best corners in the conference.

Adams looks ready to have his best season before taking his talents to the NFL. Despite his abilities, teams will still challenge him and he continues to make plays.

Dennard has the experience and now the confidence coming off a big game against Georgia in the Outback Bowl.

White is a solid back-up but Waynes looks to be the future and it will be interesting to see how many reps he gets this fall.

Hicks will be a solid back-up while Colquhoun is still making the transition from playing his prep ball in Canada but should continue to improve as he gets more reps.

SAFTIES Kurtis Drummond, RJ Williamson, Isaiah Lewis, Jairus Jones

Lewis is a star in the making and Jones could start for many other programs. But the real battle is between Drummond and Williamson. Both players have the skill set to be great players with the early winner being Drummond because of experience. But Williamson is tough and explosive and will look to make his mark.

INCOMING FRESHMEN Demetrious Cox, Mark Meyers

The goal is to keep both players for an extra year. However, it would not be a surprise if Cox pushes himself onto the field in some capacity.
