Byrne No Stranger To Michigan State

The recruitment of 2014 offensive lineman Jimmy Byrne continues to heat up as the Ohio native added an offer from Michigan State a few weeks ago. We caught up with Byrne to get his thoughts about the Irish.

With offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State and others, St. Ignatius (Cleveland, OH) offensive lineman Jimmy Byrne is not easy overwhelmed about any offer he may receive. However, when Michigan State offered, Byrne already had some information about the Spartans.

"I was offered about two weeks ago by Michigan State," said Byrne. "I received a letter in the mail from my recruiting coach (Terrence Samuel) to give him a call. When I contacted him, he said they wanted to let me know that I was being offered and how they are very interested in me and how they would like to have me come up and visit campus."

Spartan fans well remember another Spartan standout from Byrne's high school in former quarterback Brian Hoyer.

"Brian Hoyer who is the back-up quarterback for Tom Brady right now went to Michigan State and also went to my high school," said Byrne. "My family is kind of family friends with his family, so I kind of have an idea of what the football program at Michigan State is like, but I've never visited.

"So I would definitely like to go up and check it out after the season as I'm not sure I'll be able to visit during the season. I've caught a couple of Michigan State's games the past couple of years so I've seen them play."
