Top Spartans: Central Michigan

Spartan Digest names our Top Spartans from Saturday's 41-7 victory over Central Michigan.

Spartan Digest takes this time to recognize a couple of members of the Michigan State football program by handing out our Top Spartan honors for those Spartans we feel played a huge role in the Spartans success on the field.

Each week during the season we'll give out Top Spartans honors to the following.

Top Spartan: The one player who played the biggest role in the success of the team in that week's game.

Top Spartan Offense: Player other than the Top Spartan who helped the offense to have success on the field.

Top Spartan Defense: Player other than the Top Spartan who helped the defense to have success on the field.

Top Spartan

William Gholston – Defensive End

One week after going without a tackle, Gholston led the Spartans with seven total tackles including a sack and two quarterback hurries as the Spartans held Central Michigan in check. This week was a very hard choice as several Spartans on defense had solid game.

Top Spartan Offense

Andrew Maxwell - Quarterback

The junior signal caller used Saturday to get things going in the right direction. While early we saw a few mistakes, Maxwell came on and hit on over 64% of his passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. This performance was needed with Notre Dame coming to East Lansing next week.

Top Spartan Defense

R.J. Williamson – Defensive Back

Williams again was involved in a big play as he forced a fumble while also posting five total tackles including one for a loss. The red-shirt freshman continues to show the tools to be a major contributor in the Spartans defense.
