Quarterback verbals to MSU

John L. Smith has done it again. MSU's head football coach snagged his second quarterback out of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio. The new recruit is the fourth to verbal to MSU for the 2004 season.

Brian Hoyer, ranked as one the best quarterbacks in the Midwest, made his decision to join the Spartan family on Tuesday.

Hoyer joins Dave Ragone as the other quarterback out of St. Ignatius to decide to play under Smith. Last season Hoyer completed 131-of-263 passes for 2,130 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Hoyer is in the similiar mold as Ragone, who went on to star at the University of Louisville. Both quarterbacks have big arms and the ability to maneuver in the pocket. The 6-foot-3 senior has been timed with a 4.81 40-yard dash time at the Nike Camp.

Hoyer is by far one of the best recruits Smith has picked up in his short tenure at MSU. Hoyer chose MSU over Maryland, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
