Spartans Staying On West

Ohio safety prospect Darius West is hearing from many early in the process. A couple of weeks ago West visited Michigan State and talks with SpartanDigest.com about his experience.

With ties already established with the Michigan State program, Darius West is no stranger with the Spartans as former Lima (Ohio) Central Catholic teammate Tyler O'Connor signed with the Green & White in the 2012 recruiting class.

A couple of weeks ago West visited the Spartans for their game against Notre Dame. What did the 6-foot-0, 183-pound West take away from his game day experience?

"I've been in contact with (assistant) coach Mike Tressel," said West. "We chat on Facebook every now and then so it was good to get up there for a game.

"The atmosphere was really nice and the crowd really loud. I like what I saw at Michigan State with their discipline and physical style of play on defense. I can see myself playing there."

For West the early part of the college football season has seen him take in several games.

"I've visited Michigan State for the Notre Dame game," explained West. "I've also visited Ohio State, Louisville and Cincinnati for games this season. I'm going to try and make a few more before the season is over."

While projected as a safety in college, West is helping his team playing a different role this season.

"We're 6-0 as of right now," said West. "Last week we were down 13-points but came back to take a one point lead. I then had a pick six that I returned to the house putting us up 28-20 sealing the win. Right now I don't have that many tackles as I'm playing corner, but I've got three picks and have also been playing receiver."
