Last Look Back Defense: Iowa

Michigan State's defense played hard and held Iowa in check for most of the game. However, when the big play was needed it failed to come up with the football. We take one last look at the Spartans defense and hand out our grades.

Michigan State continues to struggle getting pressure from its defensive front four. William Gholston posted six assisted tackles and recorded a pass break-up and quarterback hurry. However, the rest of the group combined for six tackles on the day. They did do a good job of setting up the linebackers to make many plays on the day.

Again this is the strength of the Spartans defense as Denicos Allen had his biggest day of the season posting 13 total tackles to go with an interception and quarterback hurry. Max Bullough was right behind with 11 total tackles and Taiwan Jones continues to push Chris Norman to the side with a 10 tackle effort with a pass break-up and quarterback hurry of his own.

Isaiah Lewis continues to put his name at the top of the secondary with a six tackle effort and the unit as a whole kept the Hawkeyes passing game in check. However, when they had a chance to make a game changing play they failed to come up with it.
