Spartans Surprise Richardson

Visiting Michigan State for their game against Nebraska gave 2014 offensive line prospect a big surprise. caught up with Richardson about that surprise.

Saturday was to be like any other day for Westerville (Ohio) Central offensive lineman Nick Richardson as he visited Michigan State for their game against Nebraska.

However, even before the game started the 6-foot-4.5, 280-pound prospect got a surprise.

"I went up to Michigan State and the trip was great," said Richardson. "I just went up for the game but got a tour of the facilities and liked it a lot as the campus is wide open.

"I also spoke with head coach Mark Dantonio a little before the game and that is how I learned about my offer. It caught me a little off guard."

Leading the way for the Spartans is linebacker coach Mike Tressel. Has Richardson been able to build an early relationship with his main recruiter?

"Coach Tressel is real nice and I've talked with him a few times and met him for the first time yesterday."

Also holding offers from Illinois, Toledo and Cincinnati, Richardson came away impressed from his game day visit.

"I liked their student section and all their traditions," said Richardson. "I like how their weight room is right next to their practice field and watched to see what type of offense they have.

"We run the spread offense at my school but I liked what they ran a lot."

Spartan Digest will continue to follow the recruiting path taken by Richardson and if that will include the Spartans as more teams are sure to come calling.
