Last Look Back Defense: Minnesota

Each week we'll take a look back at each side of the football from the previous game before moving on to the next one. The Michigan State defense was again solid helping the Spartans reach their goal of playing in a bowl game.

The Spartans looked a little better getting pressure up front as William Gholston and Micajah Reynolds each posted a sack. However, not putting any extra pressure on the quarterback is still a concern. Gholston had another penalty that was costly but played a much better game with four tackles and a pass break-up. However, going into next season there will be some questions that will need answered and possible help from the junior college ranks looks like a must.

The Spartans linebackers continue to be consistent in making big plays as Max Bullough, Taiwan Jones, Denicos Allen and Chris Norman combined for 19 tackles with each recording one tackle for a loss.

When you consider Minnesota attempted 30 passes only completing 13 of them for 92 yards and add in four interceptions by members of the secondary it should be easy to say the group have a great day. Isaiah Lewis continues to be one of the team's top tacklers and Darqueze Dennard, R.J. Williamson and Johnny Adams added the picks with Adams having two of them. Despite the future loss of Adams, this group has depth and should continue to be strong in 2013.
