Commitment Spotlight Brian Allen

Michigan State received a verbal pledge from Illinois offensive lineman Brian Allen on Saturday and SpartanDigest.com recruiting analyst Dave Berk spotlights Allen in this breakdown.

Michigan State's newest football pledge is no stranger to the Spartans program or it's fan base. Brian Allen gives the Green & White more than just another family member happy to join Mark Dantonio and his staff in the future and we look at Allen the player in our latest commitment spotlight.

Brian Allen

HT: 6-2 | WT: 270 lbs.
Hometown: Hinsdale, Illinois
High School: Central HS
High School Position: C/OG/DT
Projected College Position: OG/C/DT

Key Offers: Michigan State (verbal), Boston College, California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin.

WHAT TO LIKE

Allen is a player capable of playing on both sides of the ball and much like his brother could be an offensive guard or center for the Spartans. He shows the ability to move his feet and is very fluid in his overall body movement. A natural bender, Allen should be able to enter Michigan State and compete early in his career much like his brother.

WHAT IS A CONCERN

The first thing you will notice about Allen is he's listed at only 6-foot-2. Brother Jack Allen was listed at the same height in high school but listed on the official MSU roster at 6-foot-1. While you would like to see more offensive linemen in the 6-foot-5 range or taller, keep in mind Allen is projected to be a center/guard and can pull off the job despite the height limitations.

OVERALL

This is a great addition to the Spartans 2014 class as Allen understands the style of play used by MSU with his older brother already part of the program. His transition into the program should be smooth and the fact he brings another tie to the state of Illinois could help the Spartans recruit the state with more success in the years to come. On the field the Spartans are getting a player with the ability to play on both sides of the ball if they choose.
