Tuesday, the work paid off as the Spartans extended the 6-foot, 195-pound defender an offer.
"Michigan State has wanted me to visit campus for the past couple of months," said West. "They had planned on offering me when I visited but I guess Coach (Mark) Dantonio got a little anxious and decided to offer me now."
How did West learn about the Spartans offer?
"Coach Dantonio called my coach and told him to have me call him," explained West. "So when I called he offered me. It means a lot when a head coach really likes you as a player and takes time out of his busy day to tell you about an offer. It just shows how much they care about their players and you as a recruit."
As for where the Spartans stand with West, he was quick to respond.
"Michigan State was at the top of my list even before I had an offer," said West. "As soon as track season is over I'm planning on getting up there. I camped there last year and got a chance to work and talk with Coach (Harlon) Barnett. I also talk with my Coach (Mike) Tressel a lot."
With the success West is enjoying in track, Spartan fans should not expect a visit for a few weeks.
"Right now track is going really good as we've got the fastest times in the state in the 4x100 and 4x200 and I have the third faster 100 time in the state in Division Three with a 10.95. We have conference on Thursday and then we've got district, region and then state."
When does West see himself making his college decision?
"Right now I'm hoping to work down my list so right now it's a process of elimination," West said.
