Roy Hearing from Spartans

Ohio defensive end Shane Roy is now hearing from Michigan State and looking forward to his chance to earn an offer from the Spartans. Spartan Digest has the latest on Roy.

With college coaches continue to visit schools across the country; Michigan State continues to work the hotbed of Southwest Ohio for recruits.

Wednesday found two Spartan coaches checking out Reading (Ohio) defensive end Shane Roy.

"Coach (Harlon) Barnett and Coach (Ron) Burton stopped in my school to see me," said Roy. "I visited Michigan State during the spring to see the school and to see a practice and I plan on returning on June 16th for their camp."

To say Roy was blown away by his spring visit may be an understatement.

"It was amazing at Michigan State," said Roy. "They have such a great school environment and I can't imagine what it would be like during football season."

Roy has already added nine offers and his offseason work has turned heads including Michigan State's.

"At the start of the football season I was maybe 190-pounds," said Roy. "After football season I played basketball to stay in shape and then I started lifting like seven days a week and doing speed training. Right now I'm just over 6-foot-4, and weight 230-pounds."

Roy knows nothing has been promised when he camps but feels an offer from the Spartans is well worth his time.

"I hope to earn an offer when I'm there," explained Roy. "I feel an offer from Michigan State would be the next level for me. I've got Illinois, but Michigan State has years of tradition and are up there with the likes of Ohio State.

"If I earn an offer from them it would definitely put them up at the front. I don't think I would commit right away as I would like to think about it and keep my options open for a while. But I definitely like their school."
