Rene High on Spartans

Could Michigan State be looking at Canada for a prospect in the 2016 class? Patrice Rene hopes so and talks about a recent visit with the Spartans.

Already holding scholarship offers from Akron and Syracuse has Peterborough, Ontario (Canada) St. Peter's cornerback Patrice Rene having high interest in Michigan State.

Rene took part in the Sound Mind Sound Body camp over the weekend and talked about a recent visit to campus.

"I have great interest in Michigan State," said Rene. "I visited there in April and visited the facilities and spoke with Coach (Mark) Dantonio and Coach (Harlon) Barnett when I was there.

"I felt a good connection with both of them and hope to hear more from them soon."

Rene's interest in the Spartans is two folded as he sees what the Spartans offer on and off the field.

"The first thing that stands out is the type of people they have at Michigan State," explained Rene. "They have good people. It's also the school and facilities as they have great academics and athletics."

Another reason Rene is excited about the Spartans comes from their recent recruitment of players from Canada.

"You can see they accept kids from Canada," said Rene. "Many programs stereotype us and for Michigan State being open to kids like us is really great."

Another thing helping the Spartans is the Sound Mind Sound Body Camp held in the region over the past nine years.

"Camps like this are amazing," said Rene. "It allows kids like us from Canada the ability to come down and prove we can also play ball. So these camps are very important to us."
