Indispensable Spartan #30

Spartan Digest is back with our annual look at the most important Spartans for the upcoming season. Each year we come up with a different theme and this year we'll look at the 30 most indispensable Spartans in 2013.

Michigan State saw George Perles take the field as head coach 30-years ago. Spartan Digest recognizes Perles with this seasons 30 Most Indispensable Spartans with a look at those members of the football team we feel will have major roles if the Spartans are to have success on the field.

Here is #30

Mike Sadler

Hometown: Grand Rapids, Mich.

High School: Forest Hills Northern

HT: 6-0 WT: 185

Position: Punter

Experience: 2 time letter winner

2012 Season: Earned First-team All-Big Ten by the coaches and second-team by the media. Was his second year as the starting punter and played a major role in the Spartans win over Wisconsin as he placed three punts inside the 10 during overtime. Sadler led the Big Ten and ranked 21-st in the FBS with an average of 43.3 yards per punt. Placed 39 percent of his punts inside the 20 (31-of-79) and 22 percent inside the 10 (17-79).

Strengths: Strong leg with the ability to place the Spartans defense in position to make big plays and turn the outcome of the game.

Weaknesses: At this stage of his career, Sadler does not show any major weakness and should be key to the Spartans special teams.

Overall: We placed Sadler at this position because we feel there really isn't much to worry about in 2013. A proven commodity, Saddler enters his third season as a starter and should finish his career as a four year starter. Could also find himself in a battle to be the Spartans place kicker.
