Indispensable Spartan #24

Spartan Digest is back with our annual look at the most important Spartans for the upcoming season. Each year we come up with a different theme and this year we'll look at the 30 most indispensable Spartans in 2013. Who is No. 24?

Michigan State saw George Perles take the field as head coach 30-years ago. Spartan Digest recognizes Perles with this seasons 30 Most Indispensable Spartans with a look at those members of the football team we feel will have major roles if the Spartans are to have success on the field.

Tyler Hoover

Hometown: Novi (Mich.)

High School: Novi High School

HT: 6-7 WT: 290

Position: Defensive Tackle

Experience: Two-time letter winner

2012 Season: Continued fighting injuries but saw action in eight games with two starts. Posted 13 total tackles.

Strengths: Veteran player who has seen his share of ups and down. Knows what it takes to compete in the Big Ten and hopes are a move inside will help him find a starting role in his final season Added more weight to help with the move inside.

Weaknesses: After showing much promise in 2010, Hoover has fought injuries and seen other players pass him by. Must stay injury free if he's to help the Spartans in 2013.

Overall: Hoover's move to defensive tackle shows the depth the Spartans have on the edge. While Hoover has great physical size, he'll also find the going tough inside as the Spartans have some younger players looking to earn their way onto the field. If any injuries slow Hoover down early, look for him to be passed by on the depth chart.
