Indispensable Spartan #23

Spartan Digest is back with our annual look at the most important Spartans for the upcoming season. Each year we come up with a different theme and this year we'll look at the 30 most indispensable Spartans in 2013.

Michigan State saw George Perles take the field as head coach 30-years ago. Spartan Digest recognizes Perles with this seasons 30 Most Indispensable Spartans with a look at those members of the football team we feel will have major roles if the Spartans are to have success on the field.

Nick Hill

Hometown: Chelsea (Mich.)

High School: Chelsea High School

HT: 5-8 WT: 193

Position: Running Back

Experience: Two-time letter winner

2012 Season: Solid contributor on special teams and ranked second on the team in all-purpose yards with 789 (only 48 rushing).

Strengths: Solid player on special teams who has the tools to give the Spartans a change of pace out of the backfield as he can stretch the field with his ability to run and catch the ball out of the backfield.

Weaknesses: Lacks the size to be an every down back in the Spartans offense but could see his number called more often in 2013.

Overall: Hill should see his carries increase this fall with the Spartans looking for help at the running back position. Should remain a solid contributor on special teams, but we don't feel he's the answer the Spartans need for a success run at running back. Nevertheless, Hill has some skills that will allow the Spartans to use his abilities in a positive manor and he could play a key role in some games.
