Indispensable Spartan #22

Spartan Digest is back with our annual look at the most important Spartans for the upcoming season. Each year we come up with a different theme and this year we'll look at the 30 most indispensable Spartans in 2013.

Michigan State saw George Perles take the field as head coach 30-years ago. Spartan Digest recognizes Perles with this seasons 30 Most Indispensable Spartans with a look at those members of the football team we feel will have major roles if the Spartans are to have success on the field.

Monty Madaris

Hometown: Cincinnati (Ohio)

High School: Moeller High School

HT: 6-1 WT: 199

Position: Wide Receiver

Experience: Redshirted in 2012

2012 Season: Some thought Madaris could come in and compete right away after a stellar prep career at Moeller High School. After getting a slow start, the decision to redshirt was wise as the Spartans will have the Ohio native for four full seasons.

Strengths: Came out of high school as a top pass catching receiver capable of stretching the field. Must show these skills early in camp to give him a chance to earn a bigger role in the Spartans offense.

Weaknesses: Lacks college game day experience.

Overall: It is no secret the Spartans need players who can catch the football on offense. Madaris entered MSU as a solid receiver and should have grown physically over the past year to give him an early chance to break into the two-deep and contribute early.
