Indispensable Spartan #19

Spartan Digest is back with our annual look at the most important Spartans for the upcoming season. Each year we come up with a different theme and this year we'll look at the 30 most indispensable Spartans in 2013.

Michigan State saw George Perles take the field as head coach 30-years ago. Spartan Digest recognizes Perles with this season 30 Most Indispensable Spartans with a look at those members of the football team we feel will have major roles if the Spartans are to have success on the field.

Here is #19

Blake Treadwell

Hometown: East Lansing, Mich.
High School: East Lansing High School
HT: 6-3 WT: 300
Experience: Four time letter winner.

Jack Allen

Hometown: Hinsdale, Ill.
High School: Central
HT: 6-1 WT: 295
Experience: One time letter winner.

2012 Season: Treadwell started seven games in 2012 while playing in nine overall. Was in a battle during the preseason to be the starter at left guard but an injury during camp saw him miss the first four games of the season.

Allen started 12 games combining time at center (seven starts) and left guard (five starts) during the 2012 season. Earned first-team Freshman All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America and CollegeFootballNews.com. Was winner of MSU's Outstanding Underclass Lineman Award taking 97 percent of the team's offensive snaps.

Strengths: Both players are veteran players who knows their limitations and fully understand their roles in the Spartans system. Both will have to battle to earn a starting spot along the line this year most likely against each other and the reason we combined the two players in our listing.

Overall: The Spartans should be strong no matter which player earns the starting nod. Both have a high number of snaps taken during their career with Treadwell providing senior leadership.
