Indispensable Spartan #18

Spartan Digest is back with our annual look at the most important Spartans for the upcoming season. Each year we come up with a different theme and this year we'll look at the 30 most indispensable Spartans in 2013.

Michigan State saw George Perles take the field as head coach 30-years ago. Spartan Digest recognizes Perles with this season 30 Most Indispensable Spartans with a look at those members of the football team we feel will have major roles if the Spartans are to have success on the field.

Here is #18

Joel Heath

Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
High School: Mount Healthy High School
HT: 6-6 WT: 277

Experience: Has played in five games.

2012 Season: Many felt Heath was going to be more of a contributor last season. Another year of growth may have been needed but the talent is there for the Ohio native to play a role in the Spartans defense.

Strengths: Heath has great physical size and athletic ability. In his third season in the program he should be stronger physically and mentally and more of a factor for the Spartans.

Overall: This season will be big for Heath if he's to reach the potential shown during his prep career. Had a solid spring and should be able to help at defensive end this fall spelling Marcus Rush or Shilique Calhoun when needed.
