Kilgore among standout freshmen early

Freshman from Cincinnati getting attention from other players, including Andrew Maxwell, for performance in fall conditioning and workouts.

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio fielded a few questions about which freshmen were standing out so far this fall during the two days of Big Ten Media Days.

The answers were mostly expected, with linebackers Jon Reschke and Shane Jones standing out, as is quarterback Damion Terry.

Another name came up twice, though, that might not have been as expected by those on the outside: Wide receiver Trey Kilgore.

Dantonio said he hears from players which freshmen are looking good in fall conditioning.

"Trey Kilgore is a guy that players talk about," Dantonio said. "They talk about the two linebackers. They talk about Damion Terry's ability to throw and our defensive backs running around."

Again he brought up Kilgore when talking about how many wide receivers the Spartans might use this season.

"We are gonna use a lot of three wide receiver sets," Dantonio said. "You're going to be able to clearly see eight or nine guys. "You talk with our older guys, like Andrew Maxwell, and he mentioned that Trey Kilgore is a guy that looks impressive."

Kilgore, out of Cincinnati St. Xavier, missed much of his senior year with a foot injury.
