However, from the sound of things, Padla may learn more about a possible scholarship offer earlier than expected.
"We went up to Michigan State to watch and talk with Coach (Mark) Dantonio and Coach (Mark) Staten and watch the scrimmage," said Padla. "I saw a lot of pulling by the offensive linemen and a bunch of smash-mouth football as they like to run the ball a lot.
"In talking with the coaches they want to see how much I've improved from last year and how much I've been working. However, I think I'm going to get the offer."
For Padla the recruiting process looks to be taking its toll with a decision coming in the next few weeks with or without an offer from the Spartans.
While the 6-foot-6, 265-pound offensive lineman may have been watching the Spartans battle one another, he was already thinking about the day his Spartan future could be decided.
"My scrimmage is on August 22, it will be my chance to earn an offer," said Padla. "When I went up there for camp, I had a really bad day as it was my last camp and I was really burned out from all the other camps.
"So I didn't really have that good of a day or otherwise they would have offered me there. So now they are going to look at the next thing which is my scrimmage. I've worked for it and it will be nice when I get an offer from MSU.
"I plan on making a decision over Labor Day weekend as it's been a long process."
Joining Padla on this trip was teammate Jhonathon Williams who is also looking for an offer from the Spartans and in the same situation Padla finds himself in with earning an offer.
It went good for Jhonathon today," said Padla. "They said the same thing for him as they really want to watch the first scrimmage. I'm guessing both of us are going to get offered as they are high on both of us."
