Herbert makes first visit to East Lansing

Lapeer East junior offensive lineman took in all MSU has to offer during his visit, and took a special liking to the way the Spartans practiced.

Lapeer East junior offensive lineman Anthony Herbert made his first visit to East Lansing on Wednesday.

"I enjoyed it a lot and I loved the campus," he said. "Practice looked good. It looked like they had a really intensive practice."

Herbert spent the majority of the time in practice focusing on his position group with the offensive linemen.

"I saw the offensive lineman everywhere they went," Herbert said. "I walked anywhere. If they walked halfway across the field, I walked over there and watched for a couple minutes. Their time would be up and they would run across to the other half of the field."

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound junior said he liked how Coach Staten was intense and how the players worked.

"I liked the intensity," Herbert said. "I liked how everybody was working hard and not giving up on blocks."

He also was able to spend time talking with some coaches.

"I talked to the tight end coach and the lineman coach and I got to talk to Dantonio," Herbert said. "They just talked about my season and wishing me luck on having a good season."

Herbert camped at Michigan and Notre Dame, so those are the two schools he has been hearing from most. He said he hopes now he will start hearing from MSU more.

Herbert and Lapeer East opened camp Monday.
