-- Orchard Lake St. Mary's has MSU commit Jalen Watts-Jackson in the secondary, but the Spartans also want to add junior Tyson Smith to the mix. Smith visited East Lansing last weekend. He has an offer from MSU: Smith takes first visit to East Lansing

-- Montclair (N.J.) defensive end Darius Slade has the Spartans in his top three, Brian Dohn reports. Slade is high on MSU, West Virginia and Rutgers: Three stand out for Slade

-- Berrien Springs senior offensive tackle Nick Padla has long been on Michigan State's radar. Allen Trieu reports he will visit for the Western Michigan game and expects he will land an offer at that time: Padla closing in on decision

BASKETBALL

-- 2014 shooting guard Devin Booker is one of top targets for MSU. He plans to visit East Lansing the weekend of September 6, Evan Daniels writes. He also has visits scheduled to Michigan, Kentucky and Missouri, while a visit to Florida is pending: Booker sets visit dates

-- 2014 point guard Tyler Ulis picked up a Kentucky offer on his visit to Lexington and Michigan State is in his top four. Ulis has a visit planned to MSU the weekend of September 6, the same as Booker, reports Brian Snow: Ulis talks UK, visits
