Friday night, McNeil and his Indianapolis (IN) Decatur Central teammates looked to open up the 2013 season with a victory over Franklin Central. After a strong start, the Hawks found themselves in a shootout against the Flashes falling 58-50.
"We came out here as a team ready to win," said McNeil. "We did come out as a team and tried to win and do what we had to do. However, we did some things wrong and didn't get the job done so we move on to next week and work to get better."
As a two-way player for the Hawks, McNeil stressed the importance of being part of a team instead of talking about himself.
"The goal for my team is to win and get better no matter what it is," he said. "If that means watching film or working on footwork, we just try to get better as a team each day."
As for the recruiting process, McNeil is in no hurry with only one official visit confirmed to North Carolina State in early September.
"Right now the recruiting process is happening and I'm at 18 offers," said McNeil. "I'm more worried about working hard and getting better while helping the team win.
"Right now I'm not sure what other schools I'm going to take visits at. As soon as I visit some other schools I'll have more of an idea of what I'm looking for."
As for Michigan State, McNeil said his visit with the Spartans was a positive one.
"I had a tremendous day at Michigan State," he said. "The campus was wonderful and I really loved it up there."
