Hicks has "good chance" to play as a freshman

True freshman cornerback from Solon, Ohio, listed at No. 2 at field corner. Pat Narduzzi said he will be the fourth corner for Friday's opener.

A couple weeks ago Michigan State defensive backs coach said freshman Darian Hicks was going to be a really good player for the Spartans before all is said and done.

It appears Hicks is going to get his chance to make a mark this season.

"Oh, there's a real, real good chance," defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said. "He's a great player out of Solon, Ohio. He's smooth and he's got patience and I think he's going to be a good player for us."

Narduzzi said that sophomore Arjen Colquhoun will be the first corner off the bench, but Hicks is the No. 4 corner.

"It will be Arjen Colquhoun, who has been really, really good as well," he said. "He has made strides, he's lost about 10 pounds from the spring and running a lot better than he did in spring ball."

On August 14, Barnett praised Hicks for his "great feet, athletic ability, ball skills and toughness."

The week before that, senior safety Isaiah Lewis said Hicks had been locking up a lot of people and making plays during practice.
