How MSU commits fared

Looking at stats for Spartans commits this weekend. Youngstown Ursuline quarterback Chris Durkin was the standout, leading his team to a comeback victory.


Chris Durkin

Durkin led Youngstown Ursuline to a 27-24 comeback win against Walsh Jesuit (Connor Cook's high school). Durkin threw the winning 30-yard touchdown on fourth-and-15 with 1:32 left. Ursuline scored on its final two possessions to come back. Durkin scored on a rushing touchdown to cut the gap to 24-20. He threw for 199 yards in the game.

Vayante Copeland

Copeland ran for 111 yards on 20 carries and had two interceptions on defense. The future MSU cornerback helped lead Dayton Thurgood Marshall to the 32-22 win.

Byron Bullough

Bullough led Traverse City St Francis with 78 yards rushing n 14 carries. The Gladiators fell 28-7 to New Lothrop.

Chris Frey

Frey, like his future linebacker teammate Bullough, plays running back for his high school team. He had Upper Arlington's lone touchdown on a 56-yard run in a 26-7 loss.

Matt Sokol

A tight end commit for the Spartans, Sokol plays quarterback for Rochester Adams. He score on a 12-yard touchdown run for the Highlanders in their 12-7 win against Clarkton – which features MSU commit David Beedle. Sokol had 73 yards rushing on 15 carries and completed two of four passes for 33 yards. The game was delayed by lightning on Friday night and completed Saturday.


Jayru Campbell

Campbell led Cass Tech to an 18-12 win over Southfield, which features a pair of start defensive ends in Malik McDowell and Lawerence Marshall.

Campbell threw for 203 yards on 18 of 28 passing and two touchdowns. One of the touchdowns was a 30-yard screen pass to back Mike Weber, who has an MSU offer. Campbell was hot late in the game, completing 10 of 11 passes.
