Spartan Digest Insider Notes

MSU has been keeping an eye on Nick Padla for a while, will an offer come this weekend for the offensive tackle? That and more notes on Michigan State football recruiting.

**Kentucky commit Darius West (Lima Catholic Central) did visit Michigan State on Friday as we reported. West came up with his teammate, wide receiver Mykael Rogers, as well. The pair arrived very early compared to other recruits – around 3 p.m.

**The Spartans have been keeping a close eye on Berrien Spring offensive lineman Nick Padla for some time. They have seen his latest scrimmage film and he visited Friday for the WMU game. He has felt like he has been close to an offer for a while and it looks like one might come Friday night.

MSU will send a coach to see Padla play Friday against Paw Paw and if they like what they see, the green light has been given to offer him.

If Padla gets an offer, he very well could commit on the spot. If he doesn't, it would likely come soon after.

**Mona Shores wide receiver Asantay Brown is committed to Western Michigan as a defensive back, but the Spartans are still watching him as a wide receiver. They will be at his game Friday. Brown camped at Michigan State this summer.

**Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway safety Montae Nicholson is schedule to visit this weekend for the South Florida game. He is a top MSU target.

Many of the Spartans commits will be on hand to welcome him and make him feel at home. Expected to be there are MSU commits Matt Sokol, David Beedle, Jalen Watts-Jackson, Deon Drake and Chris Frey Jr.

**2014 commit Brian Allen has been invited to the Army All-American game. Fellow 2014 commit Deon Drake (Cass Tech) also is slated to play in the Army game. The last time Michigan State had a commit play in the Army game was in 2009, when they also had two in Edwin Baker and David Barrent.

**Oak Park athlete John Kelly got an MSU offer on his visit August 7 for ‘Spartan Day.' It was his first major offer as the only other one he had at the time was Western Michigan.

It looks like the Spartans made a good decision there as Kelly carried his team to a win over Orchard Lake St. Mary's on Friday night. Kelly ran for 145 yards on 16 carries with a 49-yard touchdown.

The Spartans appear to be in the driver's seat for Kelly right now.
