The 6-foot-4 Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln wing started getting heavy interest from MSU about a month ago and made his commitment to Tom Izzo on Monday.
"First when they came, they came on strong and they acted like they really wanted me," he said. "I went up there for an unofficial just to see things and talked to the coaches and I liked it and liked what they were talking about so I scheduled an official. Then I fell in love with it when I went up for an official."
Bess said he called Izzo around 2:30 and told him of his decision.
"He was excited," Bess said. "He said he was going to tell the guys on the team and everything and that he was really excited."
Bess made his official visit to Michigan State last weekend and took in the full experience and said he "fell in love with it."
"When I was on my official this past weekend, I basically just fell in love with it," he said. "I came back home and sat down, talked to my parents and we decided that this was the best situation and best place for me. … I just loved the team. I like the players, the coaches, the campus. I just liked everything about the school – the academic adviser and everyone that I talked to. Just everything about the school I loved."
He said the Spartans coveted his ability to play multiple positions.
"Coach Izzo they just love my versatility and that I can play the one, two or three," he said.
Now, for Bess and Gahanna, the goal is set for his senior year with his recruitment over.
"I want to win a state championship," he said. "That's the number one goal, to get a state championship."
