Thompson takes in great defensive performance

Detroit King junior linebacker takes in Michigan State-Michigan game Saturday and had high praise for the performance of the Spartans' defense.

The Michigan State-Michigan game Saturday provided plenty of recruits a chance to take in the heated in-state rivalry.

But for Detroit King junior linebacker Tyriq Thompson, the visit carried a little bit of a twist.

"I had a great time," he said. "The game was exciting the whole way through, depending on who you were rooting for. Me and my mom had fun, as for my dad …"

Thompson's father, Clarence, played for Michigan in the mid-90s and was taking his first visit to MSU with his son.

"He was making noise for U of M the whole game, but after a while he calmed down," Tyriq Thompson said.

Thompson, who has a Michigan State offer, had high praise for the Michigan State defense.

"That was the best defensive performance I've seen in a while," he said. "It was too much for the opposing offense. They play as a team and they're all on the same page."

He also said the atmosphere was great around the rivalry game.

"East Lansing on game day is a great place to be," he said. "The fans are some of the craziest and everybody there is in one accord supporting their team."

Thompson is looking to set up a visit to Pitt, but isn't sure when it will take place.

The Panthers are among the other teams to have offered the linebacker, as well as Illinois and Wisconsin.
