MSU eases past Mount St Mary's

Spartans use strong second-half start to roll past Mountaineers

No.1-ranked Michigan State continued their roll through nonconference play with a 98-65 win against Mount St. Mary's on Friday.

After a slow start, the Spartans broke the game open with a 20-5 run out of halftime.

Keith Appling, coming off the bench along with Adreian Payne and Branden Dawson, had 17 points to lead the Spartans.

The trio was benched because of missing classes and Gary Harris sat out resting an ankle injury.

Denzel Valentine and Travis Trice had 15 points each – a career-high for Valentine.

Kenny Kaminski also came off the bench with a career-high eight on 2 of 3 shooting from 3-point range.

The Spartans square off with North Carolina at 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
