Spartans handle North Florida easily

Michigan State jumps out to big first-half lead and coasts to win

North Florida provided the kind of game Michigan State needed Tuesday night as the Spartans won easily 78-48.

The Spartans ran out to a 50-19 lead in the first half fueled by a 21-4 run to open the game.

The game slowed down from there as the second half opened with a 17-17 run, but the lead was enough for MSU to cruise by the Ospreys.

Adreian Payne led the Spartans with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting. Branden Dawson chipped in 12 and Denzel Valentine had 11. Russell Byrd had a career-high 10 points, hitting 2 of 4 3-pointers.
