Payne "questionable" at Northwestern

Izzo wants to wait until senior is at 100 percent before bringing him back. In addition, Dawson had some tests Monday to check on his health.

Michigan State was without Adreian Payne in its overtime win against Minnesota on Saturday and the forward might be out this week.

Coach Tom Izzo labeled the senior "questionable" for the Spartans game at Northwestern on Wednesday.

"We're going to make it so it's 100 percent," Izzo said. "If we don't have to play him, we're going to do it like Gary Harris, he doesn't play this week or next week. We gotta get him to 100 percent.

"I gotta look at the big picture for him and the big picture for us."

Forward Branden Dawson had some tests done Monday morning, but results were not in yet.

"We're running through tests and I don't know what that will bring and I don't know what that will do because I don't know what they are," Izzo said.

Izzo said the junior was upset following Saturday's game that he didn't have any energy.

"I feel like he's an important part of this whole thing and if we're going to get better, he's gonna play at that level, too," Izzo said.
