Payne "questionable" at Illinois

Michigan State likely will be without its star forward for the third straight game.

Michigan State has been without Adreian Payne for its past two games and it looks like it will be missing the standout forward against Saturday.

Coach Tom Izzo called Payne "very questionable" when the Spartans travel to Illinois on Saturday.

"Friday he is going to have it re-X-rayed, but it's more to see that nothing's gotten worse," Izzo said. "I haven't had him do anything. This is the first day I've seen him without a boot on. He did shoot a little bit – lay up shots – today.

"Thank God everybody else almost practiced full go today."

Izzo said moving forward with Payne will depend on the amount of pain he has – and Izzo wants it to be all gone in every facet of the game before he brings the senior back.

"The stages will be if there is any pain when you run on it and any pain when you cut on it," he said.
