Payne "doubtful" against Indiana

Spartans preparing to be without senior forward for the fourth straight game as he works to come back from a foot injury that continues to plague him.

Michigan State senior Adreian Payne likely will miss his fourth game in a row when the Spartans plan Indiana on Tuesday.

The senior, has not played since Michigan State beat Ohio State on Jan. 7, is "doubtful," according to coach Tom Izzo.

"He's probably going to be sort of day by day," Izzo said. "We are preparing like he is not playing.

"If we get him that is going to be a bonus."

Payne was doing some running Monday on a machine that takes most of the weight off his feet.

Izzo also said the senior forward's status for Saturday's game against Michigan is "a question mark."

"It's gonna come down to when the pain goes away," he said. "When Payne's pain goes away. It could be by Saturday. I guess he could come today and say it felt great and play tomorrow – that is very doubtful. …

"It just depends where it's at. There's a little bit of me that could see him playing tomorrow. There's a little more of me that could see him playing Saturday. And there's some of me that doesn't see him playing for two weeks."

The Spartans host Indiana at Breslin Center on Tuesday night.
