Kelly takes extra time on MSU visit

2015 Oak Park (Mich.) running back enjoyed visit and wound up staying overnight in East Lansing. Find out what he liked about the visit so much.

What was expected to be a Saturday visit to Michigan State turned into more for John Kelly.

The 2015 Oak Park running back wound up enjoying his time in East Lansing so much, he stayed Saturday night with MSU commit Deon Drake.

"The visit was great," he said. "I got to hang out with a lot of 2015 and 2014 prospects and we were all just sitting there at the game and soaking up the school. It was great."

Kelly said he spent a lot of time with MSU commits Deon Drake (2014) and Kyonta Stallworth (2015), as well as 2014 Southfield DT Malik McDowell and 2015 Cass Tech DE/OT Joshua Alabi.

"The guys up there were just really friendly and we were all bonding together," he said.

The 5-11, 175-pound running back received an offer from Maryland this week and has been hearing from more schools since the contact period opened up in mid-January.

"I've been hearing from Auburn and Oregon," he said. "Indiana has jumped in a little bit more and so has Iowa."

He also has a visit coming up soon to another Big Ten school.

"I plan on visiting Minnesota in March," Kelly said.

Right now, Michigan State sits atop Kelly's list though.

"Right now, that's my favorite," he said, "but there's not going to be any early commitment any time soon."
